| From Spanitz Consulting, Inc. - www.spanitz.com - 888.SPANITZ - 888.772.6489 Northern Michigan Notes Yang Pieyi was determined too ugly to sing in the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, located in China this year. WTF? For anyone unfamiliar with that abbreviation, I’ll substitute this one: What the heck? I know American girls do not have the market cornered on low self-image and self-esteem issues. Especially when China has this long history of favoring male children over female, and there is this system of only so many children allowed per family, and if you know you’re having a girl you’d just better get rid of it because girl children are just not what this country needs. Ok, take a deep breath now. But come on, people. I’ve seen little Yang Pieyi, and there isn’t one thing wrong with her looks that a swift kick in the communist ruling members' heinies wouldn’t cure. In fact, I'd like to see a picture of the ruling member who decided Yang Pieyi wasn't pretty enough. Is this ruling member physically attractive? I wonder, because this person obviously doesn't have a brain or any sense of empathy or feeling. Definitely the ruling member who made the remark has no children, or he would understand how sensitive children are about their looks. I think Pieyi is a pretty little girl. She has the beautiful chubby cheeks that many kids her age have. So what–she has uneven teeth. So do my kids. Their teeth are still falling out and growing in. I think there's nothing more endearing than a jack-o-lantern grin on picture day, so why not at the Olympic opening ceremonies? What a wonderful message China sends the world. Some little girls, though they have beautiful voices and loads of talent, are too darned ugly to be seen. So we’ll let the pretty little girls hog the spotlight. Who cares if the pretty little girls have talent or not? China just wants them for their looks. China might just as well announce their plan to start doing some selective pruning of their thronging masses, Hitler style, and ethnically cleanse all those who are deemed unworthy to be seen in public. No more crooked teeth. No more chubby cheeks. China wants beautiful, slender people with even teeth. What a crock of horse puckey. Shame, shame, shame on you, China. Shame, shame, shame on you for stealing a little girl’s dream. Pieyi had the best voice, she should have been the one to sing the song, and be SEEN singing it. Looks aren't everything. Look at Lyle Lovett. Regardless, Lyle still managed to marry actress Julia Roberts, however briefly. And Julia Roberts was considered to be a very beautiful woman. I don't think that Sarah Jessica Parker is exactly the sexiest thing in the city but she's still doing all right for herself. I admit I'm not a big fan of the Olympics. I'm not really sure what place beach volleyball has in the grand scheme of physical pride on the world-wide scale. And the commentators don't seem to understand, either. What was the announcer thinking when he remarked that the server was aiming for the "husband and wife area of communication" on the other team? WTF? I mean, What the heck? Regardless, it's just a crying shame, shame, shame -- I can't type that word enough in this case -- shame when the appearance of the Olympic pomp and ceremony must be the top priority for China, all at the expense of a little girl who was thought to be unattractive by some ignorant cretin of a communist ruler. I thought the Olympics were supposed to be about the athletes. One can only hope that Pieyi didn't realize why she wasn't allowed to visibly participate in the ceremonies. One can only hope that Pieyi will have a true knowledge of her worth as a member of society, but I really wonder. When little girls are part of a society that doesn't value them at all, what hope can they have of any self-esteem? Come on over to America, little Pieyi. No one here will care if you're pretty or ugly, or if your cheeks are chubby and your teeth uneven. We'll like you for who you are. And even if looks aren't anything, and truly they aren't, there isn't a danged thing wrong with what you look like, Yang Pieyi, and no matter what your country tells you, you are a person of worth. You have value. And don't let this one, nasty incident be the defining moment of your life. Life is more than just perfect white teeth and a slender body. Shame on you, China. Shame. Shame. © Copyright 2000-2008 Spanitz Consulting, Inc. - All Rights Reserved |
