About the Author
Years ago, Eric provided project management and human dynamics consulting to Chinese business people in Hong Kong. While there Eric was exposed to the real-world business application of Feng Shui, although he did not realize it at the time. Looking back, Eric did wonder about the placement of the flip charts, tables, chairs, and even the coffee cups because they were placed in ways that seemed esthetically pleasing, yet unconventional compared to a normal corporate training environment.
After his return to the United States, Eric read his first book about Feng Shui. Only into a few pages of the book, he set the book down and finished unpacking from a recent move. Several friends came over to help figure out where everything would go in the new apartment. One of the suggestions the friends made was to place a dragon picture next to the front door. After a few more items where unpacked and placed, drinks were poured and after a little while the friends left and Eric went to bed. The next morning - a Saturday - Eric was awoken by the telephone ringing. He answered and spoke with a large corporation in the Chicago area that wanted him to come in as soon as possible to provide some much-needed consulting. Eric agreed and thought it was odd for someone to call early on a Saturday morning. When he hung up the phone it rang again. Another national company called to request Eric to come to their out-of-town location to help them with a large initiative. Eric agreed to that request and hung up the phone. It rang a third time and when Eric answered he spoke with a relative who had passed his name on to yet a third organization the previous evening. Eric was told to expect a call from the third organization on Monday. When Eric hung up the phone for the third time he looked over to the Feng Shui book he had just started reading. Turning to the next page he read how putting a picture of dragons next to the front door would bring in new opportunities from unexpected sources. Feng Shui was working for Eric, even though he had not read about that particular treatment yet!
Eagerly reading on, the book said that putting a chandelier in the Southwest corner of one's living room would strengthen and renew friendships and help with overall networking and socializing. Not having a chandelier, Eric tacked up several strings of Christmas lights in the corner. When running errands later that day, Eric ran into eight different people that he had not seen in years, and all were happy to reestablish contact with Eric. In fact, several of these people had only moved back to Chicago days earlier.
With a bit of an obsession, Eric has since read "all" books he has found about Feng Shui, from those written for a traditional Chinese audience to those written for a Western or American audience. Eric recently completed a certified distance learning home course for Master-level Feng Shui and has applied Feng Shui to both his residence, his office, and the offices of several of his management consulting clients. Eric's application of Feng Shui combines the commonalities of each Feng Shui school of thought while preserving the traditional intent.
